Congresswoman Jenkins Applauds House Legislation To Modernize North American Energy & Lower Prices At The Pump

WASHINGTON, D.C.–This week, H.R. 3301, the North American Energy Infrastructure Act and H.R. 4899, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America that Works Act passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. After passage, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) released the following statement:

“Today we learned that our economy declined at a 2.9% annual rate in the first quarter of 2014. This is a steeper decline than previously reported and is the sharpest contraction since the recession. Our economy is clearly getting worse and the President’s policies are not working.

“Rising electricity bills and prices at the pump are certainly not helping our economy and are a drain on every family’s checkbook. This is why the House is passing legislation to unleash the benefits of American energy through our all-of-the-above energy strategy, which will address rising energy prices, create more good paying jobs, and help spark an economic turnaround this country desperately needs. This legislation will also cut the red tape to get energy flowing right here at home, and more importantly lessen our dependence on foreign energy.”

The Legislation:

H.R. 3301, the North American Energy Infrastructure Act introduced by Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), creates a more modern and efficient cross-border approval process for pipelines and other energy infrastructure on the United States’ borders by eliminating unnecessary requirements that discourage energy investments.

H.R. 4899, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America that Works Act introduced by House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (R-WA), expands offshore, onshore and Alaskan energy production. The legislation could generate over $1 billion in new revenue over ten years according to the Congressional Budget Office and create up to 1.2 million jobs long-term.

Tomorrow, the House will consider H.R. 6, the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act introduced by Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO).
