WASHINGTON, D.C. – Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage and recognize the artistic abilities of students in their district.  Since it began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the Congressional Art Competition, and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) is currently accepting entries from Second District high school students for this year’s competition.

“We had truly amazing entries for last year’s Congressional Art Competition, and I look forward to seeing even more inspiring works from the very talented high school students in Eastern Kansas,” said Congresswoman Jenkins. “The deadline for submitting artwork is 5:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April 9, and submissions should be sent or brought to my Topeka office.”

The winner will receive the honor of having their work displayed in the United States Capitol for one year. They will also receive an art scholarship to attend a specific school, and a trip to Washington, DC to view their work in the Capitol.
