Congresswoman Jenkins Accepting Entries for Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON— Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage and recognize the artistic abilities of their young constituents. Since it began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the Congressional Art Competition.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of high school students across the Second District,” said Congresswoman Jenkins. “I am currently accepting entries, and the winner’s artwork will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year.”

All entries must be original in concept, design and execution. The deadline for submitting artwork is5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 28 inches by 28 inches (including the frame) and may be up to 4 inches in depth. The artwork may be any two dimensional piece such as:

·         Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor

·         Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers

·         Collage

·         Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints

·         Mixed Media

·         Computer Generated Art

·         Photography
