What I've Been Working On

Dear Friend,

The last few weeks have been pretty busy, but I wanted to take a moment to share with you what I’ve been working on lately.

I’ve heard from many of you regarding your concerns and questions about Ebola. So I wanted to share with you that  I recently visited Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton to review and discuss their preparations for treating individuals with potentially highly contagious diseases, like Ebola. While we know that the risk of Ebola to the Central Coast community is very low, my office has been in touch with our Central Coast hospitals and public health departments to ensure they have plans in place and the resources and information they need to protect our community.

While I was in North County I also attended the first Farmers Market for Kids, organized by the Food Bank Coalition of SLO County and the Boys and Girls Club.  The market provided students with the opportunity to “shop” for healthy fruits and vegetables, while also developing good nutritional habits.  After the event the kids were able to take their fruits and vegetables home to share with their families and discuss what they had learned.

I was also able to visit Cuesta College’s nursing program, which prepares our nurses for a lifelong career right here on the Central Coast. As a former nurse and author of the Nurse Reinvestment Act, it was exciting to be back in the classroom and great to chat with students who will strengthen our healthcare workforce.

Finally, the children in our classrooms are never far from my mind, which is why I was excited to visit Lucia Mar Unified School District’s classrooms for students with special needs. The students and teachers in these classrooms are incredible individuals whose drive to learn is inspiring.

I always enjoy travelling up and down the Central Coast to meet with constituents and visit local projects. If you have suggestions on places for me to visit along the Central Coast send me an emailor contact one of my offices. You can also keep up with my work on the Central Coast by liking myFacebook page or following me on Twitter.
