DULUTH, MN—Congressman Rick Nolan announced today that Nate Choi, a senior at Duluth Marshall School in Duluth, MN, is the winner of the 2014 Annual 8th District Congressional Art Competition.

Nate was named “Best in Show” for his piece, “Topper Hockey Pride,” a painting depicting a recent victory by the Hilltoppers, Duluth Marshall’s hockey team.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in all 435 congressional districts. More than 650,000 high school students have participated since the onset in 1982.

“We received many outstanding entries from high school students in every part of the Eighth District,” Nolan said. “It was really tough to choose a winner. A big congratulations to every young artist who submitted to this contest.”

Nate and a companion will be flown, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, to Washington, D.C., in June. His piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year, along with other first-place winners from districts across the nation. Runners up will be invited to display their pieces in Congressman Nolan’s Duluth office.
