Education

As a devoted father with a daughter in public school, Congressman Garcia knows first-hand how critical it is to empower our students and teachers with the resources they need. Congressman Garcia believes that no child should be denied a quality education and recognizes that we must make needed investments in a 21st century education system that makes strong education policies the foundation for future economic growth and prosperity.

Congressman Garcia believes the federal government must meet its obligations to support out children and provide local schools with the resources they need to thrive. That’s why he is a strong supporter of early education programs like Head Start, which brings high-quality, low-coast preschool to thousands of children in South Florida. This program, which serves thousands of children in Florida, helps ensure all children have access to the child care and early education they need and deserve. Earlier this year, he signed on a letter requesting continued funding for this vital investment in Florida’s future.

As we work to ensure that children have the resources they need to succeed early in life, we must also ensure that students have the opportunity to succeed later in life. That’s why Congressman Garcia is also committed to working on a bipartisan basis to ensure that a college education is in reach of all Americans. To help ensure that college remains within reach of all, Congressman Garcia has supported legislation to keep student loan rates at an affordable 3.4%, voted to prevent the doubling of student loan rates, and has strongly supported funding for the Pell Grant program.

Congressman Garcia believes that all students in the United States deserve a fair chance at attending college, which is why he is a proud cosponsor of the IN STATE Act of 2014. This important legislation would enable DREAMERS to attend college in their home states for the same in-state tuition that other students already pay. Congressman Garcia firmly believes that these young adults, who want nothing more than the opportunity to contribute to this country that they call home, should not have to pay more to afford a quality college education than other state residents.
