Showing Gratitude to Our Troops, Veterans This Memorial Day

WASHINGTON, DC . . . As families and communities across America celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, Congressman Hall released the following statement:

“This Memorial Day weekend we remember that our Nation’s greatest gift is freedom and that this gift is possible because of the men and women who bravely serve in our Defense. We rightly set this time aside to honor all our servicemen and women – past and present – who have fought and sacrificed for our country throughout our Nation’s history. For their sacrifice, our troops and veterans deserve our deepest gratitude and utmost respect.

“Showing our appreciation for their courage and sacrifice through words of remembrance is important, but we must also show our appreciation for soldiers and veterans by ensuring they receive the support they need both on the battlefield and at home. This past month, I was proud to support Defense funding for our troops so they have the necessary equipment, training, and resources to perform their duties with as much protection as possible when they are placed in harm's way.”

“As many of you know, news reports show many of America’s VA hospitals are being negligently managed and our veterans are being waitlisted for proper health care. This is a disgrace to our servicemen and women, many of whom suffer health issues stemming from their active duty service. Our country owes them and their families timely, quality health care in response to their sacrifices, which is why I called on the Veterans Affairs Inspector General to investigate allegations of mismanagement at VA hospitals in Central Texas. I also voted in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act to hold accountable senior executives responsible for negligent management.

“I am honored to represent the Fourth District, its 60,000 veterans, and many active duty servicemen and women. These brave individuals are family members, friends, and neighbors, and I encourage everyone to take a moment to personally thank them for their service.

“History has shown that there can be no peace in the world without strength.  A strong defense is our best offense, but our greatest weapon is the power of prayer. God bless this country, and may God bless the men and women who defend it.”

Rep. Hall visits with fellow WWII veteran, Lt. Richard E. Cole. On May 19, the House honored Lt. Cole and other members of the “Doolittle Tokyo Raiders” for outstanding heroism, valor, skill, and service to the U.S.
