WASHINGTON, DC . . . Today, Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) voted with House Republicans to hold Lois Lerner, the former Director of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) division that oversees tax-exempt groups, for contempt of Congress. H.Res. 574, which passed 213-187, is in response to Lerner’s failure to comply with a congressional subpoena after repeatedly refusing to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee relating to the IRS’s political targeting of conservative group applicants that occurred during her leadership.

After voting in favor of the Contempt Resolution, Hall made the following statement:

“The IRS has unconstitutionally abused its power and bullied American taxpayers based on political beliefs. The trustworthiness of this federal agency continues to be called into question with former Director Lois Lerner’s repeated refusal to answer questions regarding this unfair targeting.

“Former Director Lerner’s testimony remains essential to uncovering the truth of how and why the IRS first began targeting conservative groups. I will continue to fight aggressively for answers that the American people deserve and for the fair and just treatment of all Americans who choose to express their political views – whether Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative.”
