Hall Opposes Omnibus Budget

WASHINGTON, DC . . .Today, the House voted on H.R. 3547, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014, which funds the federal government for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2014. Rep. Ralph Hall (TX-04) voted against the budget proposal, which passed 359-67.

After the vote, Hall made the following statement:

“Today’s bill is a continuation of the short-term budget proposal passed at the end of last year. I opposed this bill for the same major reasons I opposed the previous bill – namely that there is still a lot of waste, it doesn’t do enough to protect the hard-won spending cuts achieved in recent years, and it funds ‘ObamaCare.’ Ten Texas Republicans voted as I did, and we will continue our war to defund – not fund – this bad health law.

“My goals for the new year continue to be balancing the budget, reforming the tax code, and defunding ‘ObamaCare.’ I agree with Admiral Mike Mullen, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who cited our debt as the single biggest threat to national security.

“One of the best ways we can address the debt and balance the budget is through the repeal of ‘ObamaCare.’ The President’s bad health care law is the most egregious government power grab in recent years and a violation to Americans’ Constitutional rights. ‘ObamaCare’ is a drain on job creators, and it hurts individuals’ personal, financial, and health security. The stories that pour in every day about the bad law’s negative impacts prove that this fight is far from over.

“Americans deserve a government that will budget taxpayer dollars responsibly and that will promote economic growth and security.
