REP. MIKE THOMPSON ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $3 MILLION FOR SANTA ROSA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS

Jun 4, 2014
Press Release

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5) today announced a $3,087,565 Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grant for Santa Rosa Community Health Centers (SRCHC). The grant will help SRCHC provide effective, responsive, culturally-appropriate solutions to community health needs for the populations served by SRCHC.

“A person’s access to quality, affordable health care should not be dependent on where they live, how much money they make, or whether or not they have health insurance,” said Thompson. “The committed, hard-working people at SRCHC make sure that if someone needs care, they get care. I am proud to support their work, and will continue doing everything I can to make sure they have the resources they need to serve our community.”

Naomi Fuchs, Chief Executive Officer at SRCHC, says, “We are grateful for the Federal funding that ensures our doors are open to everyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay. SRCHC is a critical resource for over 42,000 people struggling with barriers to health posed by poverty, lack of insurance, transportation, culture, education, and homelessness.  Without this ongoing support from the federal government, we simply could not continue to reduce the prevalent health disparities in our community.”

Specifically, funding from the grant helps cover operational costs such as:

  1. Staff who provide essential primary health services
  2. Care, programs, and services for uninsured patients
  3. Outreach and enrollment efforts

Congressman Mike Thompson is proud to represent California’s 5th Congressional District, which includes all or part of Contra Costa, Lake, Napa, Solano and Sonoma Counties.  He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Rep. Thompson is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and chairs the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Wine Caucus.
