WALZ, PAULSEN JOINT STATEMENT ON NUCLEAR ENERGY AMENDMENT

WALZ, PAULSEN JOINT STATEMENT ON NUCLEAR ENERGY AMENDMENT

(Mankato/Eden Prairie, Minnesota) – Today, U.S. Representatives Tim Walz and Erik Paulsen released the following statement in reaction to the Minnesota House of Representative’s passage of an amendment that overturned Minnesota’s nuclear moratorium, but placed additional restrictions on building new power plants:

“Yesterday’s amendment, while not perfect, is a step forward. For decades, the debate over nuclear energy has been stalled, largely along ideological lines. Last night’s vote illustrates that we are making progress in finding common ground, but we still have more work to do. We must continue working together to solve the energy challenges we face in a way that meets the needs of families who pay their energy bills, businesses who produce energy and future generations of Americans who will need access to clean energy. As this debate continues, we look forward to working with House and Senate members of both parties.”

Last November, Rep. Walz and Rep. Paulsen joined a broad coalition of business and labor leaders to call for a bipartisan, comprehensive approach to our nation’s energy strategy and an end to Minnesota’s moratorium on new nuclear power plants.
