VIDEO: Congressman Paulsen Shares Ron's Story

Congressman Paulsen Shares Ron’s Story

“No one should be forced to buy health insurance that isn’t right for them or their family.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) took time on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to share stories from constituents facing rising healthcare premium costs and cancelled plans due to the President’s new healthcare law. Tomorrow the House will vote on the Keep Your Health Plan Act, legislation to help ensure the commitment that if people like their healthcare plan, they can keep it.

Congressman Paulsen’s Remarks as Delivered:

“Millions of Americans are losing their healthcare plans, their doctors, and their confidence in the President’s new healthcare law.

“The simple truth is: the facts show the law is hurting more people than it’s helping.

“Although the President committed many times that no one would lose their original healthcare coverage, millions have.

“One of my constituents, Ron from Champlin, he’s had his healthcare plan for twenty-one years. He likes his health plan.  It works for him. But Ron, like thousands of other Minnesotans, received a cancelation notice.

“Another constituent emailed me this morning saying that his healthcare plan was renewed, but the costs were going up $5,400 this year.

“And unfortunately, I’ve heard stories like these from many others in my community.

“Mr. Speaker, if you like your healthcare plan, you ought to be able to keep it. And no one should be forced to buy health insurance that isn’t right for them or their family’s needs.

"I will continue to work with all those who are willing to sit down at the table to have a responsible solution and a real solution to our healthcare challenges.”

Yesterday, the Administration admitted that after more than three years of preparation, only 106,000 people signed up for coverage in the new healthcare exchanges as of November 2, nearly 80% below the Administration’s predictions. Only 1,774 Minnesotans have enrolled in marketplace plans.
