Paulsen Urges President Obama to Visit Med Tech Company
Rep. Paulsen Writes Letter to President Ahead of Trip to Twin Cities

Eden Prairie, MN – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) sent a letter to President Obama urging him to visit a medical technology company during the President’s Twin Cities trip to discuss the economy Wednesday, February 26th. The Twin Cities are home to over 400 medical technology companies employing over 34,000 people.

Rep. Paulsen wrote to the President: “I regularly have the opportunity to visit with many (medical technology) companies that are working to discover the next medical breakthrough. The first-hand stories from these doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, and employees are the reason I am working so hard to repeal the Medical Device Tax. I strongly encourage you to visit any of the hundreds of medical technology companies in Minnesota to hear their stories for yourself when you visit on Wednesday.” The full letter can be read here.

A study released last week showed that the Medical Device Tax is responsible for the loss of 33,000 jobs and has forced some companies to move or expand manufacturing abroad, and cut back on research and development—the lifeblood of the industry. The 2.3% excise tax on gross revenue has been in effect since January 2013.

Representative Erik Paulsen’s bipartisan legislation to repeal the Medical Device Tax recently gained its 270th co-sponsor in the House.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
