Paulsen Statement on U.S. Military Engagement in Libya

Supports U.S. Military Withdrawal from Libya

Washington, D.C. – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) issued the following statement regarding continued U.S. military engagement in Libya:

“This afternoon, I voted to end U.S. military intervention in Libya. I remain unconvinced that there is a strategic national interest for the United States, and am appalled by the lack of specific goals or objectives which would clarify the successful completion of our mission or an exit strategy,” said Congressman Paulsen. “This is not a partisan issue – nor should it be – but rather an issue about the Constitutionality of an engagement which was never approved by Congress. We have an obligation to the men and women in our armed forces who serve this country so bravely to put them in harm’s way only when it serves our vital national interest. Until the reason for that mission is made clear, I cannot  support U.S. military action in Libya.”
