Paulsen Questions Administration Over Rocky Obamacare Roll Out

House Ways and Means Committee Holds Hearing on the Status of the President’s Affordable Care Act implementation

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) participated in the House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the problems Americans are experiencing with the Obama Administration’s launch of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). During the hearing the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Marilyn Tavenner apologized to the American public for Healthcare.gov’s problems. Congressman Paulsen questioned Administrator Tavenner during the hearing; you can find that exchange below.

“Directly from our constituents, we’re hearing these stories about these challenges. I look at Trisha from Bloomington who contacted me, and she says her rates are going up 30 percent in January. And she’s been looking at the exchange options and the available plans, but they’re even more expensive,” Rep. Paulsen remarked during the hearing. “I’ve also heard from Susan and Roger who are in Chanhassen. They like their plan they’re on. They’ve been on it for a few years. The rates had been going up previously, but now they’re going to go up another 20 percent. The insurance company notes that a lot of that is due to the regulations associated with the Affordable Care Act.”
