Paulsen Playing in 2nd Annual Capital Soccer Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Erik Paulsen will participate in the 2nd Annual Capital Soccer Classic tonight at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington, D.C. The event, which is hosted by the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Politico, will raise money for the Soccer for Success program, an organization that uses the game of soccer to promote healthy lifestyles among youth in urban underserved communities. The Capital Soccer Classic’s main event will be the Congressional Soccer Game featuring Members of Congress and U.S. soccer greats John Harkes and Brianna Scurry.

Congressman Paulsen is a regular participant in the Congressional hockey and baseball games, but will be participating in the Capital Soccer Classic for the first time. Paulsen played varsity soccer in high school and has coached his daughters’ youth teams.

“Spending more time with my colleagues outside the Capitol helps build bipartisan relationships,” said Paulsen. “On top of that, the Congressional soccer game raises money for a worthwhile cause that helps our underserved youth. While I’ve competed in other Congressional competitions, soccer is the sport I grew up playing, and I’m excited to kick the ball around with some of the best players to ever wear the U.S. jersey.”
