Paulsen Applauds Passage of Line Item Veto/Rescission Authority

Bipartisan Initiative to Cut Unnecessary Federal Spending

Washington, D.C. – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) today voted in favor of the Expedited Legislative Line-Item Veto and Rescissions Act.  Introduced by Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Ryan (R-WI) and Ranking Member Rep. Van Hollen (D-MD), and co-sponsored by Rep. Paulsen, the legislation  builds on spending cuts and a ban on earmarks enacted last year.  The line item veto gives Congress and the President greater ability to target excessive federal spending in order to reduce the debt and deficit. 

“For too long Washington has failed to serve as responsible stewards of Minnesota families' hard-earned tax dollars,” said Rep. Paulsen. “This bipartisan legislation is a common-sense tool to target wasteful federal spending and increase accountability in our budgeting process.  We must get serious about the structural drivers of our almost $16 trillion debt and the regulatory roadblocks which have stalled economic growth.  A line-item veto alone will not solve the complex budget challenges we face, but it will attack the culture of wasteful spending and help get our economy back on track and Minnesotans back to work.”

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus, as well as the U.S.–Korea Free Trade Working Group.
