ICYMI: Star Tribune Highlights Survey Showing Job Losses Caused by Medical Device Tax
Rep. Paulsen’s Bill to Repeal Tax Gains 270th Co-Sponsor

Eden Prairie, MN – Today’s edition of the Star Tribune included coverage of a survey released by AdvaMed, a large medical technology trade group, which highlighted the job losses and risk to American innovation and manufacturing caused by the Medical Device Tax. AdvaMed’s survey showed approximately 14,000 jobs have been cut, and employers have foregone adding an additional 19,000 jobs because of the tax. The 2.3% excise tax on revenue has been in effect since January 2013.

“This survey confirms what I’ve been hearing from employers throughout Minnesota: the Medical Device Tax costs jobs. This onerous tax is putting over 400,000 American jobs that support the medical device industry at risk.” said Paulsen. “The tax means less research and development, less innovation, and less opportunity for patients to access breakthrough technologies.”

Representative Erik Paulsen’s (MN-03) bipartisan legislation to repeal the Medical Device Tax recently gained its 270th co-sponsor in the House.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
