Erik's Correspondence Corner:

Stopping Tax Hikes & Veterans Jobs Bills

“We need to be doing all that we can to make sure that veterans are getting jobs when they return home.”

Washington, D.C. – Continuing his effort to keep the lines of communication open with constituents, Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) took time to answer questions sent in from around the district regarding important initiatives currently before Congress. Robert in Bloomington wrote in this week asking what Congress is doing to reform the tax code, as well as efforts to stop the looming tax hike. Edwina in Bloomington wrote in asking about legislation that will help veterans find jobs after returning home.

Each week, Representative Paulsen receives thousands of letters, emails, tweets, Facebook posts, and phone calls from constituents voicing their opinions. Through this video series, Representative Paulsen regularly responds to constituent correspondences on a variety of topics.

On Tax Rates Extensions and Tax Reform

“The House, within a couple of weeks, is going to act to stop those tax hikes from happening. Unless we act, there could be 700,000 jobs lost from small businesses across the country; 14,000 of those jobs would potentially be lost in Minnesota alone, according to a recent study.”

“We absolutely need to get rid of the special carve-outs, the special loopholes that only benefit a few, so that it is simpler, fairer, and also more competitive, so we can grow those manufacturing jobs here in the United States.”

On Veterans Jobs Bills

“I’m a cosponsor of the HIRE at HOME Act, which makes sure that those that have gained valuable experience while serving abroad in fields like nursing or being a medical technician can now get their certifications in the civilian workforce much easier.”

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
