Controlling Spending & STEM Jobs Acts 

Washington, D.C. – In the most recent installment of his weekly video conversation with neighbors, Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) took time to answer questions sent in from constituents in Long Lake and Coon Rapids. Richard emailed in with his thoughts on the fiscal cliff and Alex from Coon Rapids wrote in with her thoughts on the STEM Jobs Act, which the House passed on Friday. 

Each week, Representative Paulsen receives thousands of letters, emails, tweets, Facebook posts, and phone calls from constituents voicing their opinions. Through this video series, Representative Paulsen regularly responds to constituent correspondences on a variety of topics.

On Controlling Spending

“I will continue to champion pro-growth policies to bring in revenues – which should be a part of the solution – but also, more importantly, cutting spending. That does mean looking for sensible reductions in government spending.”

“I will continue working on a bipartisan level to make sure that that happens.”

On the STEM Jobs Act

“Essentially what this bill does is, knowing that we have the top universities in the world, the students come to the U.S. and that get trained, that get educated in science, technology, engineering, math with advanced degrees. Right now, under our immigration system, a lot of these students get sent home. That makes no sense.”

“This legislation allows those students to stay here, to create new paths, to innovate new ideas.”
