Erik Paulsen Cosponsors Legislation Honoring Veterans of Foreign Wars
Honors the Mission of Organization by Commending it at Congressional Level

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) announced his co-sponsorship of bipartisan legislation honoring the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).  The resolution, introduced by Congressman John Kline (MN-02), supports the goals and ideals of Veterans of Foreign Wars Day and commends the organization’s mission.

“America’s veterans have selflessly protected and served our great nation for over two centuries, and the VFW embodies the best of that service,” Paulsen said.  “This legislation honors these extraordinary men and women by supporting the VFW’s mission of ensuring their rights, remembering their sacrifices and promoting patriotism.  I’m very grateful for their service and proud to support this bill.”

More than 2.3 million members of the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary remain committed to the organization’s mission.  The VFW has been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating a GI Bill for the 20th century, developing the national cemetery system and assisting veterans wounded in combat.  The VFW has also been an influential force behind the creation of the Vietnam, Korean War, World War II and Women in Military Service Memorials.  The 110th anniversary of the establishment of the VFW is Sept. 29, 2009.

Among the 54 co-sponsors of this legislation are fellow Minnesota Representatives Betty McCollum, Tim Walz and Michele Bachmann.
