Congressman Paulsen Statement on Passage of House Budget

Washington, D.C.– Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement after the passage of the U.S. House of Representatives’ budget:

“With our national debt over $17 trillion and the federal government borrowing 40 cents of every federal dollar spent, we can no longer wait to get back on the right fiscal track. Thebudget that we passed today makes responsible decisions to bring our spending under control and grow our economy. By simplifying and lowering tax rates, closing special interest loopholes, and moving to an internationally competitive tax system, we give American workers the tools to succeed in a 21st century economy.

“In addition to growing economic opportunities, this budget eliminates billions of dollars in corporate welfare and waste. It also protects and strengthens important programs that seniors rely on and ensures these programs will be available for future generations.

“The longer we wait to address the drivers of our nation’s debt, the harder our choices will be when decision time comes. By passing a budget that balances we are putting America back on a responsible path.”

Congressman Paulsen also spoke in favor of the budget on the House floor. Video of his speech can be viewed here.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
