Our State 

iron sidesThe USS Constitution, Old Ironsides,  is the United States Navy's oldest commissioned warship and it currently resides in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Commissioned by President George Washington in 1794, the 44-gun USS Constitution was built in Boston and launched on Oct. 21, 1797. 2012 marked the bicentennial of the War of 1812 in which Old Ironsides played a pivotal role for US forces.

ducklingsHistoric Boston Common is the nation’s first public park, established in 1634. 
The Common marks the starting point for the historic "Freedom Trail", connects the Emerald Necklace park system and is used for numerous purposes including communitiy gatherings. For more information about visiting Boston Common and the Freedom Trail click here

jfkFour presidents were born in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John F. Kennedy (Brookline, birthplace and national historic site,pictured) and George H.W. Bush (Milton). 

lighthouseIn 1961, President Kennedy signed legislation establishing Cape Cod National Seashore. Forty miles of pristine coastline, beaches, marshes, ponds, and forests support diverse species of plants and animals. Lighthouses, landscapes, and wild cranberry bogs offer a glimpse of Cape Cod's past and continuing ways of life. Cape Cod National Seashore is protected and preserved for future generations by the National Park System.

revere beachRevere Beach is our nation’s first public beach and a National Historic Landmark. Just a few miles north of Boston, Revere Beach holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of New Englanders and around the United States. boston latin schoolIn 1635, Boston Latin was established as our nation’s first public school. Massachusetts is home to the best public schools and teachers in the US. Our students and schools traditionally rank at the top nationally and recently landed near the top on international test rankings. 

boston collegeMassachusetts is home to many public and independent institutes of higher education including the University of Massachusetts, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston College, Brandeis University, Framingham State University, Williams College, Northeastern University, Salem State University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. naismithBasketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts  and the city is home to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

peabodyThe historic Salem Witch Trials took place from 1692 to 1693 and the original documents from trials are preserved at the Peabody Essex Museum.
