Rep. Gosar Passes Bipartisan Amendment to Block Obama’s Request for $29 million for a New, Duplicative Climate Change Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the House passed his amendment to prevent the Department of Energy from using funds for a new climate change model development program. This amendment passed by a bipartisan vote of 226 to 194 and was attached to the fiscal year 2015 Energy and Water Appropriations Act:

“I am pleased to see my colleagues in the House join me in my efforts to cut waste, fraud and abuse and prohibit funds from going towards a new Climate Model Development and Validation program within the Department of Energy. Congress should not be appropriating precious taxpayer resources on new programs that compete with the private sector. 

“If funded, this program would have been yet another new addition to the President’s ever growing list of global warming programs that have been instituted and funded all over the federal government in recent years. My amendment is not about making a statement on climate change or the validity of climate science. This is an amendment about restoring fiscal responsibility and efficiency to federal spending as well as preventing duplication.”

Congressman Gosar’s amendment is supported by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, the American Conservative Union, Eagle Forum, and the Taxpayers Protection Alliance.

The non-partisan Congressional Research Service estimates the Administration has spent almost $77 billion from FY2008 through FY2013 studying and trying to develop global climate change regulations.

President Obama requested $29 million for the new Climate Model Development and Validation program in his fiscal year 2015 budget request.
