Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Democratic Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) and Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-8) announced they will sit together during President Obama’s State of the Union address tomorrow, January 28th.

“In the spirit of bipartisanship, I look forward to attending the President’s State of the Union address with fellow No Labels’ Problem Solver Mike Fitzpatrick,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos.  “Since being sworn into office, I’ve made it a priority to work with both Democrats and Republicans to find reasonable solutions to our nation’s problems.  That's why I partnered with Congressman Fitzpatrick in an effort to put our brave veterans back to work rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure- a common-sense fix for veterans unemployment and our crumbling roads, bridges, tunnels and rail lines.”

“Since joining Congress I’ve made an effort to sit with members of both parties – at the State of the Union the American people deserve to see lawmakers willing to stand with each other, not against. Tomorrow night, while the President delivers his annual State of the Union address to Congress and the American people, I am proud to be sitting with my friend and Democratic colleague Cheri Bustos,” said Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick.  “As a fellow No Labels’ Problem solver, Congresswoman Bustos has joined me and other likeminded leaders in efforts to advance common sense, bipartisan solutions to our nation’s problems – including getting our veterans to back to work with our ‘Fairness to Veterans Act’.”

In August, Bustos and Fitzpatrick joined together to introduce a bipartisan bill that would help put veterans back to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, tunnels and rail lines.  The Fairness to Veterans for Infrastructure Investment Act [H.R. 2906] would help ensure that our veterans play a critical role in rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure by providing them with access to existing contracting preferences authorized for transportation projects.  More information on the bipartisan effort can be found HERE

Bustos and Fitzpatrick were both named Congressional Problem Solvers by the bipartisan group No Labels.  This is a group of 88 House and Senate Democrats and Republicans who meet on a regular basis to build trust across the aisle and to develop solutions for the American people.
