Representative Bradley Byrne

Representing the 1st District of Alabama

Byrne Demands Answers from Biloxi VA

May 29, 2014
Press Release

Washington, DC – May 29, 2014 – Today, Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) sent a letter with his colleague, Representative Steven Palazzo (MS-4), to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi expressing concerns about care standards and requesting further information. The Biloxi facility is the main regional center for veterans in Southwest Alabama who receive referrals for more specialized care.

Byrne said: “Over the past months, my office has been in communication with the VA facility in Biloxi in a good faith effort to find out what problems exist at the local level and to learn how we can help. However, I remain concerned that there may be institutional problems that have not been adequately addressed, leaving Southwest Alabama veterans without sufficient access to this care.

“Today, I am partnering with my Mississippi colleague, Rep. Palazzo, to put a formal request in writing to this facility requesting answers on behalf of our veterans. I expect a timely response from the Biloxi VA so that I can begin the work of helping veterans in my district receive the care they have earned through their service. I will keep all my constituents informed on this matter moving forward.”
