Byrne Congratulates Gowdy on Appointment as Chairman of Benghazi Special Committee
Washington, DC – May 5, 2014 – Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) congratulated Representative Trey Gowdy (SC-4) for being named Chairman of the Special Select Committee on Benghazi. House Speaker John Boehner announced the formation of the Committee on Friday.
Byrne said: “The American people deserve answers about the loss of four American diplomats, including Ambassador Stevens, in the tragic events at Benghazi. With the release of new information last week indicating the White House may have played a role in shaping the Administration’s factually inaccurate message in the aftermath of these attacks, it is very clear there is more beneath surface we need to discover. Representative Gowdy has shown a consistent tenacity and leadership in demanding answers on this issue, and I wholeheartedly support his selection as Chairman of this critical committee.”

Representative Byrne previously cosponsored H.Res. 36, which would establish a select committee to investigate the attacks. Currently, the measure has 189 cosponsors in the House of Representatives.
