Byrne Announces Congressional Art Competition Winners

Washington, DC – May 6, 2014 – Today, Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) announced the winners of the Congressional Art Competition to represent Alabama’s First Congressional District.

Roni Spann with her work, “Neon Cathedral,” winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Alabama’s First Congressional District.

The winners are:

  1. Roni Spann, St. Paul’s Episcopal School, 11th grade: “Neon Cathedral”
  2. Feng Li, Alabama School of Math and Science, 12th grade: “Moment of Elation”
  3. Katherine Steadman, St. Paul’s Episcopal School, 10th grade: “Fragile Shadow”

Honorable Mentions:

  • Alexa Ferguson, Alabama School of Math and Science, 10th grade: “Abstract Lines”
  • Jewel Biggs, Baker High School, 12th grade: “All of Which Are American Dreams”
  • Lauren Cave, UMS-Wright Preparatory School, 12th grade: “Coastal Life”

Byrne said: “These students showcase the diversity of talent in Southwest Alabama with their truly remarkable creativity and skill. I thank each of these students for their participation in this contest and congratulate them on their awards.”

The first-place entry, “Neon Cathedral,” will hang in the United States Capitol for the next year. Its creator, Roni Spann, will receive tickets to attend a reception for the winning artists from each Congressional District in Washington, D.C in the fall.
