Alameda

Alameda, a city of nearly 75,000 residents, is known for its small-town charms and historic architecture.  More than 10,000 Alameda buildings were built before 1930, and the city is renowned for its many Victorian-style homes. Alameda is also one of just sixteen “Coast Guard Cities.” Alameda BeachThis designation honors Alameda’s lengthy and fruitful relationship with the United States Coast Guard, which dates back to the 1920s.

In addition to its historic accomplishments, in recent years Alameda has shown its eagerness to innovate and adapt to a changing economy and world. The city is at the cutting edge of environmental sustainability efforts – in 2008, it adopted a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 25% below 2005 levels by 2020. Alameda’s work to create a better planet is one of many reasons it has attracted so many residents to raise families and build businesses in this beautiful waterfront city.
