Youth Crime Prevention Summit

Friday, June 27th Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson will host the annual Youth Crime Prevention Summit.  Every summer there is a traditional spike in youth related crimes.  With students out of school for the summer, and no constructive outlets, some youth tend to get into trouble.  Every year this summit brings together community leaders, faith based organizations, and law enforcement officials to speak to Dallas youth about alternatives to crime.  It gives the teens some information on great community programs, athletics, tutoring, and other constructive activities they can participate in throughout the summer months.

This year the panelists that will be working with the youth are:

• Rev. Omar Jahwar & Antong Lucky, of Vision Regeneration. 
  • Vision Regeneration is a popular Dallas based organization “dedicated to facilitating collaboration between churches, nonprofit organizations, educational organizations, corporations, and individuals who are seeking to build relationships while working to revitalize the inner city.”  They work with gangs and troubled youth to get them employment and educational opportunities.
• Chief David Brown of the Dallas Police Department
• Albert Zapanta of the North Texas Crime Commission
• Eric Pedersen of the Trinity Regional Project
