Click the image above for more information about the Congressional Art Competition.

Each year Members of Congress hold contests within their districts to choose winning pieces of art by high school students. Since this competition was created in 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated at the local level. The winning student from each district is invited to Washington, DC for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and will have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

All submissions will be displayed at Westmoreland Mall (located at 5256 State Route 30, Greensburg, PA 15601) on Saturday, April 12th, 2014 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Everyone is invited to this artwork display. Each student’s artwork will be judged by local professional artists alongside submissions from other high schools.

The first place artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Complex for one year, and the student will be invited to participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Washington, D.C.

To acknowledge the talents of the second and third place submissions, those pieces will be exhibited in Congressman Murphy's Washington, D.C. office. There will also be a People’s Choice Award that will hang in Congressman Murphy's Mt. Lebanon office for one year.

All submissions must be delivered to my Greensburg or Mt. Lebanon office by Friday, April 4, 2014. Guidelines for submissions and the Student Release Form for all participants can be found at the bottom of this page.

Please note, while submissions can be original paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art, or photography, students must also reside in the 18th Congressional district. The piece must be no larger than 28 inches by 28 inches, and no more than four inches in depth when framed. It must weigh less than 15 pounds.

If you are interested in learning more about the Congressional Art competition please contact Congressman Murphy’s District office at (412) 344-5583.
