Ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon, and in Oklahoma over the past few days have recognized Army Specialist Four Donald P. Sloat from Coweta, Oklahoma.  Spc. 4 Sloat was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic act that saved the lives of his companions during the Vietnam War.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Senate and House Veterans Affairs (VA) Committee Chairmen, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Jeff Miller, announced a breakthrough on comprehensive VA reform legislation. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Rep. Jim Bridenstine (OK-1), and Rep. Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) praised the inclusion of a provision that will allow the Tulsa Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) to pursue a new facility to better serve local veterans’ growing health care needs.

The much-hyped bipartisan Ryan-Murray budget “deal” struck late last year increases the national debt $6.4 trillion over the next ten years. It does nothing to change the trajectory of our growing debt at a time when it is among the greatest national security threats facing our nation. The “deal” also increases near term federal spending with a promise of future cuts (dubious) while raising taxes on airline passengers. Worse, it features a cut in pension benefits to current military members and veterans who earned those pensions in measures of blood and sweat. I voted against it.

Today, the House passed HR 3521 – the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Major Medical Facility Lease Authorization Act.   This bill is critical for veterans in the First District.  HR 3521 authorizes funding for 27 major VA facilities, including the proposed 140,000 square foot Tulsa Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Dorea Walker, a native of Northern California, has dedicated her life to her community, personal and professional development, and service to her country.  Dorea joined the Oklahoma National Guard at the tender age of 17 as an Automated Logistic Specialist.  Nearly two years later joined Active Duty Army as a Human Resources Specialist.  Dorea Walker performed administrative duties at Fort Bragg, NC and Panama.  She was the acting Non-Commissioned Officer In-Charge (NCOIC) of the Command Judge Advocate in Mannheim Germany.  Dorea was later transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma as the NCOIC of

Congressman Jim Bridenstine presented the Civilian Marksmanship Program's Patriot award to retired 1st Sgt. Bob Hunley, of Bartlesville, Tuesday.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program was created by President Theodore Roosevelt, dedicated to training and education about firearms. In 2009, the group created the Patriot Award to honor veterans for their service to both country and community.

Honoree Bob Hunley does something really special.
