Washington, D.C. -- Wisconsin’s five GOP House members voted for Paul Ryan’s budget plan Thursday, and the state’s three Democratic House members voted against it, reflecting the budget’s approval along stark party lines.

 

The House passed the Ryan budget Thursday 221-207. All but ten Republicans voted yes. Every Democrat voted no.

 

Alternatives to the Ryan plan on both the right and left were defeated Wednesday.

 

A more conservative GOP budget got no Democratic support and the backing of a little less than half the GOP caucus. Among Wisconsin members, only Republican Jim Sensenbrenner voted yes on that plan, offered by the conservative Republican Study Committee. Republicans Ryan, Tom Petri, Reid Ribble and Sean Duffy voted against it.

 

A Democratic budget plan also failed, getting no GOP support. It was also opposed by 28 House Democrats, including Wisconsin’s Ron Kind. The state’s other two House Democrats – Gwen Moore and Mark Pocan – voted for it.
