Price: Obamacare “Combines Fiscal Irresponsibility with Reckless Disregard”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06) issued the following statement after the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee and Oversight Subcommittee held a joint hearing today focused on concerns surrounding Obamacare’s ability to accurately verify an individual’s income and eligibility for tax credits for the purchase of insurance coverage.

“The Obama Administration’s growing reputation for incompetence is perhaps nowhere more painful to witness than in the implementation of the president’s health care law,” said Rep. Price. “In this specific case, we have a scenario in which both taxpayers in general and individuals purchasing Obamacare coverage will face the painful consequences. Billions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars are walking out the door to individuals who may or may not be eligible for these credits. Meanwhile, the administration’s frequent unwillingness and clear inability to competently enforce portions of the law will cause real harm to real folks.

“This is yet another instance in which Obamacare combines fiscal irresponsibility with a reckless disregard for the consequences of intruding in the health care of the American people. It’s further proof that we need to scrap this law in favor of patient-centered solutions that will empower individuals and families with access to affordable health care choices.”

Congressman Tom Price, M.D., is the vice chairman of the House Committee on the Budget. An orthopaedic surgeon, he spent more than 20 years caring for patients. For three consecutive Congresses, he has introduced the Empowering Patients First Act (H.R. 2300) – a patient-centered alternative to Obamacare.
