Price Statement on Latest Obamacare Court Rulings

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06) issued the following statement after two U.S. Court of Appeals rulings. The D.C. Circuit ruled that Obamacare only allows subsidies to be provided for the purchase of health care from exchanges setup by the states, not by the Federal government. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond has ruled that subsidies are to be provided across all exchanges.

“This is what happens when Washington Democrats decide to pass laws without reading them and then cheer a lawless administration that tries to rewrite them,” said Rep. Price. “The D.C. court’s decision is about respecting and restoring the rule of law. It is also a remarkable indictment of the entire Obamacare scheme – from how it was written, forced into law against the will of the American people and now implemented with illegal carve outs, caveats and last minute revisions.

“American families are facing higher premiums and fewer health care choices because the Obama Administration and their allies in Congress ignored the voices of the American people. They handed Washington greater command and control of the nation’s health care system and have stubbornly refused to acknowledge the fundamental failure of their ideas. All of this demands that we pursue an alternative set of reforms like those in the Empowering Patients First Act – positive, patient-centered solutions that would put health care decisions in the hands of patients, families and doctors.”

Congressman Price is the vice chairman of the House Budget Committee. An orthopaedic surgeon, he spent more than 20 years caring for patients. For three consecutive Congresses, he has introduced the Empowering Patients First Act (H.R. 2300).
