Price Applauds Committee Focus on Dynamic Analysis

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06), vice chairman of the House Budget Committee and a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement after the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures held a hearing focused on a dynamic analysis of Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp’s tax reform discussion draft. Congressman Price, a long-time supporter of utilizing a dynamic analysis in the legislative process, is the sponsor of the Pro-Growth Budgeting Act (H.R. 1874) which would require the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to provide a longer-term, macroeconomic analysis of legislation. This realistic scoring bill was passed by the House of Representatives on April 4, 2014.

“The ongoing effort to achieve a fundamental reform of America’s tax code is clearly the type of discussion that benefits from a dynamic analysis,” said Rep. Price. “After all, a key goal of tax reform – in addition to making compliance less onerous and less expensive for American taxpayers – is to make our tax code less of a barrier to economic growth and job creation. Using these analytic tools to determine the realistic, macroeconomic impact of proposed reforms leads us one step closer to achieving a positive set of solutions for the American people.

“I’m grateful to Chairman Tiberi and members of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures for holding this hearing. It’s an important opportunity to highlight the benefits of this sort of analysis – benefits that should be extended beyond the tax reform debate. They would prove useful when considering a broad array of legislation that we know will have an impact on America’s economy and with it the ability of individuals and families to find opportunity and greater financial security in their own lives.”
