Firefighters battle blaze in Tonto National Forest

Firefighters Sunday were battling a 100-acre blaze burning twomiles from the Tonto Fish Hatchery in the Big Canyon area of the Tonto National Forest, officials said Sunday. The "Big Canyon Fire" was reported about 10:30 a.m. Sunday about 14 miles east of Payson in a rough and remote area of the forest, according to David Albo, Tonto National Forest spokesman.

JOHNS — Stating he asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to hold a public hearing in St. Johns and they refused, Congressman Paul Gosar took it upon himself to set up and host a public hearing on the controversial Regional Haze Rule.
