Boustany: Members of Congress Should Not Be Shielded from Obamacare

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after cosponsoring legislation, H.R. 3067, disqualifying Members of Congress from receiving Obamacare subsidies toward the purchase of a health insurance plan on Obamacare exchanges:

“Americans do not like Obamacare. It’s bad policy. Americans especially hate the fact their family’s healthcare premiums will skyrocket under Obama while Members of Congress will be awarded subsidies up to 75 percent to help defray costs of premiums. Where is the fairness in that? That’s why I’ve cosponsored H.R. 3067. This legislation makes Members of Congress ineligible for the special health insurance subsidy announced by the Office of Personnel Management. Members of Congress should not be shielded from premium increases in Obamacare while constituents are forced to endure them.”
