• Obama's Political Game Has Backfired

"In order to understand the consequences of the president's amnesty, one must understand that the president's approach to the issue has been entirely political. The administration quickly recognized that a loophole in the 2008 Trafficking Victims Protection Re-authorization Act could be exploited to provide amnesty for Central American children, and then increased the budget at the Office of Refugee Resettlement to well over $1 billion in order to keep them here. The administration was not caught off guard by the summer 2014 influx of unaccompanied alien children as much as it has claimed. Based on an investigation conducted by my office, including a January 2013 46 page confidential emergency management report that we obtained, the administration has been keenly aware of an unaccompanied alien children crisis since 2011."

  • Ros-Lehtinen: Congress must defend sanctions on Iran

"The Republican takeover of Congress is an opportunity to signal to the administration and the Iranian regime that it will not be business as usual when it comes to the Iran nuclear negotiations. The Obama administration may be willing to accept Iran's continued uranium enrichment, but Congress will not allow the world's biggest sponsor of terror to have the world's deadliest weapon. Congress must use all necessary means to compel the administration to either secure a deal that guarantees Iran has completely ceased all uranium enrichment and dismantled its nuclear infrastructure, or abandon the nuclear negotiations entirely in order to prevent an unacceptable deal that Congress perceives as weak."

  • Noem: Stopping a Federal Land Grab

"Nov. 14 marked the last day where the public could comment on what could become the largest federal land grab in our country's history. So, what's the next step? Last March, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers proposed changing the definition of "waters of the U.S." It's one of those things bureaucracies try to do to expand their control. Currently, the term "waters of the U.S." encompasses all waters that are navigable or waterways that significantly connect to navigable ones. What the EPA and Army Corps are trying to do is expand the rule to include much smaller bodies of water and even some areas that are only seasonally wet."

  • Black: Obamacare Security: Still on Life Support

"The rollout last fall of HealthCare.gov, the Web portal for ObamaCare's federal exchange, was a disaster that still scars people's perceptions of the law and no doubt contributed to the drubbing Democrats took in the midterm elections. The bar for success was thus very low for the Nov. 15 start of the open enrollment period for ObamaCare's second year. According to the Department of Health and Human Services' inspector general, between $800 million and $1.7 billion has been or will be spent to develop HealthCare.gov. Even if the website turns out to be more functional than it was last year, one significant problem remains: The ObamaCare website is still not fully secure."

  • Blackburn: The American People Have Spoken: President Obama's Lawless Amnesty Must Be Stopped

"President Obama said in October that while he was not on the ballot, his policies were. The result was a historic rejection of his radical agenda. Perhaps more than any issue, voter disgust over the President's amnesty for undocumented individuals dictated the outcome. The President is threatening to expand his unconstitutional amnesty in December, which represents a direct threat to the economic and national security of this country."

  • Black: Obamacare presents a warning for Obama on immigration

"On Friday, the Supreme Court moved forward with what may become a historic rebuke of President Obama's unilateral executive action by agreeing to review the issue of Obamacare subsidies raised under King v. Burwell. At issue in the case is the administration's decision to ignore the clear wording of the Affordable Care Act that says subsidy payments can only be administered to those who purchase insurance ‘through an exchange established by the state.'"

  • McMorris Rodgers: Helping Military Families Isn't Red or Blue

"Military spouse Michelle Aikman has lived through five moves with her husband and their two young children. Currently living at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, she has made each new town "home" for her family while her husband has served overseas during 13 deployments. The moving boxes, the unfamiliar surroundings, the new schools, teachers and friends -- all are the norm for Aikman, her family, and thousands of military families across the nation. And so are the challenges facing military spouses like Aikman, who also pursue their own careers."

  • Noem: Remember veterans like Aberdeen's Arthur Hiland

"I first heard Arthur Hiland's story from his daughters. Born in Aberdeen, he was drafted to serve in the European Theatre during World War II. He helped defeat the Nazis, earning him a Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart, and then returned home to South Dakota. He rarely, if ever, spoke of his time in the military, but his account of wartime America was never lost. After he and his wife passed, his daughters found a scrapbook. It weighed maybe 20 pounds and contained much of his wartime story: His draft notice. Mementos from the places he was stationed. Pictures. Newspaper clippings. His discharge papers."

  • Lummis: Farmers, ranchers right to distrust the EPA

"Environmental Protection Agency officials want to put a good face on their recently proposed water rule that would give the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers virtually unlimited regulatory authority over state and local waters. We recently read an opinion piece from a deputy assistant administrator in this very publication ("Clean water proposal aims to help farmers," Oct. 21) who sought to convince people that this EPA proposal is harmless."
