CONGRESSMAN GARCIA ISSUES STATEMENT ON NATIONAL EBOLA THREAT
For Immediate Release: October 16th, 2014 Contact: Nicole Cueto (202) 480-7274
MIAMI, FL – In light of the recent Ebola crisis, Congressman Garcia has issued the following the statement -
“My thoughts and prayers are with the two health care workers who have contracted the Ebola virus here in the United States, as well as their families and all others around the world who have been exposed to this devastating disease.
It is critical that the Centers for Disease Control and other federal, state, and local agencies take the necessary steps to ensure this disease not spread further in our country. As part of this effort, I believe the Administration should impose travel restrictions to the United States from the West African countries impacted by the tragic Ebola epidemic.
It should also support the use of passenger database systems by airlines flying out of affected countries to better track passengers who may have been exposed, similar to those precautions currently being implemented here in the U.S. Both the Administration and Congress have a responsibility to act aggressively to protect the American people and to stop the spread of Ebola, here and throughout the world.”
Next Monday afternoon, Congressman Garcia will host a conference call with local healthcare professionals and community leaders to discuss safety precautions, how to identify symptoms and implementation of proper protocol in the event of a local outbreak.
