The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created as part of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, the most sweeping Wall Street Reform legislation since the Great Depression.  U.S. Rep. Peters serves on the Financial Services Committee and played a significant role in shaping the original reform bill the House passed in 2009. He also served as a key Member on the House-Senate conference committee to reconcile the different reform bills passed in each chamber, a rare appointment for a first term Member. U.S. Rep. Peters was selected to serve on the committee because of his 22 years of experience as a family investment advisor, his expertise on financial issues and his leadership in crafting the House’s original reform bill.
