U.S. Congressman Gary Peters Recognizes the Beginning of Black History Month

Today, U.S. Representative Gary Peters released the following statement in recognition of Black History Month:

“As we mark the beginning of Black History Month, we come together as Michiganders and as a nation to reflect on the countless contributions African Americans have made to our communities. From small business owners to teachers to public servants and community leaders, the contributions of African Americans in Greater Detroit and across our country remind us every day of how far we have come as a nation.”

“In celebrating Black History Month, we must also reflect on our journey as a nation and how far we still have to go. Our fight for equality and our pursuit of a strong middle class, with opportunity for all, is ongoing. I stand with the people of Michigan as we recommit ourselves to this mission of progress and look forward to witnessing the inevitable accomplishments and contributions of the African American community in our time and in the future.”
