West Bloomfield, MI. - Today, in response to the announcement on Friday by the Palestinian Authority that it will unilaterally seek statehood from the United Nations Security Council rather than through the peace process with Israel, Rep Gary Peters issued the following statement:

"I strongly oppose the unilateral course of action announced by Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority on Friday to seek recognition from the United Nations rather than sit down with Israel to negotiate an end to the conflict. I am pleased that the Obama Administration has already publicly opposed this attempt by the Palestinians to circumvent the peace process, including a pledge to veto this effort at the U.N. Security Council. Because this effort is extremely unhelpful to the United States, the security of our ally Israel, and the prospects for peace, it should result in a serious reassessment of our relationship with the Palestinian Authority."
