Peters Applauds Unanimous Passage for His Bill to Cut Red Tape for Michigan Auto Dealers & Consumers

U.S. Representative Gary Peters today applauded the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee’s unanimous passage of a bipartisan bill he authored with Congressman Bob Latta (R-OH) that would eliminate redundancies and red tape and invest in Michigan auto manufacturers, dealers, and consumers. The Peters-Latta initiative, H.R. 724, would eliminate the need for additional paperwork when selling and buying new cars and trucks. Currently auto dealers must provide consumers with a certificate confirming a vehicle’s compliance with The Clean Air Act, even though all cars and trucks sold in the U.S. must  comply with The Clean Air Act. The bill passed unanimously by voice vote and is expected to go to the U.S. House Floor next year.

Peters said: “I am glad to see Republicans and Democrats support this common sense measure to cut red tape for Michigan auto dealers and consumers. This is an example of how we can find common ground to support job creation and Michigan manufacturers and auto dealers. We cannot have a strong middle class without a thriving manufacturing and auto sector, and I look forward to supporting this bipartisan measure on the U.S. House Floor.”
