Peters Announces Federal Grant for Detroit Fire Department

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Gary Peters (MI-14) announced the award of a $353,864 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for Fire Prevention and Safety to the Detroit Fire Department.

“Our first responders risk their lives to protect our families, and we have a responsibility to make sure that every station has the training, personnel and tools it needs to do the job safely and effectively,” said Rep. Peters. "This grant will give the Detroit Fire Department critical resources to ensure the safety of our first responders and help them continue to serve our communities.”

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
