CONGRESSMAN PETERS STATEMENT ON
GENERAL MOTORS ANNOUNCEMENT

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Gary Peters issued the following response to General Motor’s announcement of its new restructuring plan it has filed with SEC today:

“I am extremely concerned with the affect this plan will have here in Michigan.  Our state has been hit hard enough already and we cannot afford to be disproportionately impacted by GM job losses.  The purpose of providing General Motors taxpayer funded loans was not just to keep GM in business, but to preserve American jobs and bolster the U.S. economy.  We all know that GM must make cutbacks, but preserving as many American jobs as possible must be the primary goal of all restructuring efforts.”
