OLSON URGES THE SENATE AND THE PRESIDENT TO ACT ON KEYSTONE XL

Washington, DC– Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today voted again to immediately authorize construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would bring North American oil from Canada into the US and to our refineries in Texas.  The bill passed the House by a vote of 252 – 161and will now head to the Senate for consideration. The House has passed legislation 9 times to approve the pipeline; to date the Senate has not held a vote to approve Keystone XL.

"America has waited 2,247 days for the Keystone XL pipeline to be approved,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “The President has spent more than six years blocking more than 42,000 shovel ready jobs and stalling on an opportunity to increase North American energy security. Approving the pipeline is long overdue. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton approved Keystone XL twice and Secretary of State John Kerry has approved it as well. The Senate has the votes to pass this bill and overwhelmingly, the American people support the pipeline. Sadly, our Politician-in-Chief continues to threaten to veto Keystone XL. Canada will either export their oil to America or China.

“President Obama has a simple choice- oil for America or oil for China. Mr. President, please join Congress in choosing America. It's time for the Senate and the president to take action, as the House already has done, and say yes to the Keystone XL pipeline."

A Pew Research Center survey conducted this month shows support for the Keystone XL pipeline at nearly two-to-one, 59 percent to 31 percent.
