OLSON HOSTS GRADUATION FOR CONGRESSIONAL YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL
5/13/14Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) recently held the final meeting of his Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC) for the 2013/14 school year. The CYAC is composed of select high school students from across the Twenty-Second Congressional District of Texas. At their final meeting, the students heard from State Representative Phil Stephenson, Mayor Tommy Kuykendall (Fulshear) and Fort Bend County Commissioner Andy Meyers. Each spoke about how state, county and city officials work with their federal counterparts like Rep. Olson and others in Congress to better serve our great communities.
“I would like to thank these bright and motivated students for taking time out of their school year to participate in this advisory committee. They provided important insight on the issues that affect today’s youth and hopefully they learned the importance of serving as strong leaders in their communities going forward," Olson said. "Each of these students has a bright future ahead of them and I wish them every success as they continue their journey through life. I encourage them to continue to work hard in school and follow their dreams.”
For those students interested in applying for the 2014-2015 school year, applications are now open. The Council meets four different times within the school year and includes a roundtable discussion on current events, as well as learning about the pivotal role of lawmakers, experts and citizens in a democracy. These high-achieving students will be considered Ambassadors for Congressman Olson and will be asked to provide feedback on legislation working its way through Congress.
To be considered, the completed application must be submitted to Rep. Olson's Pearland office no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, May 19, 2014. Click here for the 2014-2015 Congressional Youth Advisory Council Application (PDF).
