Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement applauding the Supreme Court ruling upholding the right of local officials to open town council meetings with prayer:

"With this ruling, the Supreme Court rightly protected the First Amendment and religious freedom of Americans. This is a victory for our God given liberties, which maintains the proper balance between religion and government. The United States has embraced public prayer without endorsement for hundreds of years. This decision strikes the right balance of neither mandating prayer, nor blocking prayer from the public square."
