Representative Ed Whitfield

Representing the 1st District of Kentucky

Second Amendment

"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

~ Second Amendment, The Constitution of United States

I strongly support Americans’ Constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms and have consistently opposed efforts to restrict rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment. I firmly believe the ability of Americans to own a firearm - whether for sport or protection - must never be compromised. Only a government that does not trust its citizens would refuse them the right to bear arms.

I have continually supported legislation to protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights, including legislation which would restore Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia; national right to carry reciprocity legislation; and legislation which would reform and modernize the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE). Sportsmen, hunters, gun enthusiasts and citizens concerned for their personal safety have a right to own guns for these legitimate purposes, and I am committed to maintaining these rights for the residents of the First Congressional District
